When the news broke that OJ Simpson had died, it was much like when he and Al Cowlings took the white Bronco down the LA freeway- everyone was talking about it. This time, people weren’t talking about why he did it/didn’t do it. Instead, people like CNN reporter Stephanie Elam talked about OJ with reverence and a fondness for his killing of Simpson/s ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman.

As Elam said, “It’s also just worth noting how much was impacted by this trial, Jake. So many things happened. We saw policing changing here in the city, and it’s also worth noting because of that unrest, that racial unrest in the 90s, that is why so many people, who may not have been invested in O.J. Simpson, were just happy to see that someone who is rich and famous, and black, could get away with what other people did in the system, as well, too.”

Yes, you read that right. A black woman working as a mainstream media reporter for arguably the widest-known television network in the world just talked about being happy white people were slashed to death by a black man. Her gushing over this man was disturbing at best. While he was acquitted in the double murder trial, he was convicted at a civil trial, as well as in the court of public opinion.

OJ’s book “If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer” was released by HarperCollins and detailed how the murders were committed. While The Juice claimed it was “hypothetical,” the details fit like a glove. In a strange twist, when OJ continued to fail in paying the Goldman’s their civil award, they got the rights to the book and have since capitalized on it.

Despite what Elam thinks, OJ didn’t get away with what other people did despite being black. He got away with it because he was black. Multiple jurors openly admitted after the trial they voted for acquittal simply because they didn’t want to see another black man locked up. Others still couldn’t believe he did it when the gloves didn’t slip right on.

Elam’s “reporting” wasn’t news coverage, it was racist propaganda.
