Lawmakers Expose What FBI Hid About Trump Shooter

The FBI blocked House investigators from learning the full truth about Thomas Crooks and his attempt to kill President Trump, according to two Republican congressmen who led the probe.

Reps. Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania and Pat Fallon of Texas say the bureau never shared crucial files with members of Congress investigating the shooting that happened last July in Butler, Pennsylvania. The New York Post recently reported on social media posts linked to the 20-year-old shooter that the FBI apparently kept hidden from lawmakers.

“We were stymied so much by the feds on what we could look at, what we couldn’t look at,” Kelly told the Post.

Kelly went further and accused the FBI of deliberately hiding information from Congress.

“We knew we were going to get stonewalled on a lot of stuff.”

The Pennsylvania congressman expressed frustration with how many questions remain unanswered about the assassination attempt. He suggested federal authorities have something to hide about what really happened that day.

“I think that there’s so many unanswered questions about it. They don’t want people to handle the truth.”

Kelly also criticized how the FBI approached the entire congressional investigation into the shooting.

“We all know it wasn’t done, it wasn’t complete and the reason for that is they can’t handle the truth.”

According to the Post, the social media messages linked to Crooks included multiple endorsements of political violence. The posts also showed a dramatic shift in his political views, moving away from supporting Trump to opposing him.

Authorities originally told Congress they found no evidence Crooks followed any specific political ideology based on what was on his laptop. But sources say there was actually a clear timeline showing how his ideology changed over time and how his rhetoric became increasingly violent.

An unnamed source who claims to have found more than a dozen online accounts belonging to Crooks said the warning signs were there for anyone paying attention.

“The danger Crooks posed was visible for years in public online spaces. His radicalization, violent rhetoric and obsession with political violence were all documented under his real name. The threat wasn’t hidden.”

The FBI has never publicly identified a political motive for the shooting. But digital records show Crooks’ online comments changed dramatically over several years, going from pro-Trump to anti-Trump. What caused that change is still unclear.

Before Crooks focused on trying to kill the president, his violent posts were reportedly aimed at Democrats instead.

Kelly said the House committee meetings with the FBI left lawmakers feeling like they never got real answers. The committee released its final report in December but questions continue to pile up.

“I don’t think any of us came out of that feeling, ‘You know what we really got the answers we were looking for.'”

Congressman Fallon is now calling for a brand new investigation after learning about what the Post reported. He says he does not remember the FBI sharing those details when he served on the congressional committee looking into the shooting.

“I don’t think it would do any harm at all. You can’t investigate these things enough.”

FBI Director Kash Patel pushed back against the criticism last week by defending the bureau’s work on social media. He said the investigation was thorough and extensive.

“The FBI’s investigation into Thomas Crooks identified and examined over 20 online accounts, data extracted from over a dozen electronic devices, examination of numerous financial accounts, and over 1,000 interviews and 2000 public tips.”

Patel also insisted that Crooks acted completely alone and never told anyone about his plans.

“The investigation, conducted by over 480 FBI employees, revealed Crooks had limited online and in person interactions, planned and conducted the attack alone, and did not leak or share his intent to engage in the attack with anyone.”

But the congressmen who investigated the shooting say those assurances ring hollow when the FBI kept critical information away from elected officials trying to get to the bottom of what happened.
