Trump Mocks George Stephanopoulos For JD Vance Interview Tactics

President Donald Trump blasted ABC News host George Stephanopoulos during a meeting.
Trump met with Argentine President Javier Milei when he made his comments. The president did not hold back his criticism of the ABC host.
“We’ll take a couple of questions from the news, and I’m sure they’ll be incredibly non-hostile, and friendly, like JD went through a very ‘friendly’ interview with George Slopadopoulos.”
Trump said this with apparent sarcasm. He made fun of Stephanopoulos’ name by calling him Slopadopoulos.
Trump went on to reference the ABC lawsuit. He joked about the settlement ABC paid him.
“He was nice enough to pay me $16 million the last time we came — he had to pay $16 million to me. Which is good. It was worth it. It was worth having somebody lie. If you get $16 million, that’s good.”
He then criticized the recent interview Vice President JD Vance had on the Disney-owned network.
“JD had a very nasty person interviewing him, and we can’t let that happen. Just is inappropriate to cut off a highly respected Vice President of the United States, mid-sentence. I guess it’s one way to win an argument. That was the only way he was gonna win the argument. It was pretty inappropriate, I wanna tell you that.”
Trump later said he wouldn’t take questions from ABC fake news.
During a Sunday interview, Vance sparred with Stephanopoulos. The vice president denied border czar Tom Homan accepted a bribe. He accused the ABC host of losing credibility.
This led the interview to abruptly end.
Stephanopoulos pressed Vance repeatedly on whether Homan accepted money. The host said Homan was recorded on an audiotape in September 2024. He claimed it was an FBI surveillance tape. Stephanopoulos said Homan was accepting $50,000 in cash.
“I don’t know what tape you’re referring to, George. I saw media reports that Tom Homan accepted a bribe. There’s no evidence of that. And here’s why fewer and fewer people watch your program and why you’re losing credibility. Because you’re talking for now, five minutes with the Vice President of the United States about this story regarding Tom Homan, a story that I’ve read about, but I don’t even know the video that you’re talking about.”
After Vance suggested they move onto a different topic, Stephanopoulos objected. He proceeded to end the interview abruptly.
“Peace in the Middle East? China threatening critical supply chains? Government shutdown? George S doesn’t care about that. He’s here to focus on the real story: a fake scandal involving Tom Homan.”
Vance responded with this on social media after the interview.
ABC News didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Trump’s mockery of Stephanopoulos was well-deserved. The ABC host treated Vice President Vance with complete disrespect. He interrupted him constantly. He refused to let Vance finish his answers.
When Vance tried to move on to more important topics, Stephanopoulos ended the interview. This was childish and unprofessional behavior from a supposed journalist.
Trump is right that cutting off the Vice President mid-sentence is inappropriate. Stephanopoulos showed no respect for the office or the man. He treated Vance like a hostile witness rather than the Vice President.
The interview exposed ABC’s bias against the Trump administration. Stephanopoulos spent five minutes asking about an alleged bribe with no evidence. He ignored major issues like Middle East peace and the government shutdown.
Vance pointed out the obvious. Stephanopoulos focused on a fake scandal instead of real news. The ABC host cared more about attacking Tom Homan than discussing actual policy.
Trump’s decision to refuse ABC questions is justified. The network has proven it cannot treat administration officials fairly. They ambush guests with unverified claims. They cut off answers they don’t like.
The $16 million settlement Trump mentioned refers to ABC’s previous defamation case. The network had to pay Trump for false reporting. Now they’re engaging in the same behavior again.
Trump’s nickname for Stephanopoulos – George Slopadopoulos – is perfect. It captures the sloppy journalism ABC practices. They make accusations without evidence. They end interviews when guests defend themselves.
Vance handled the situation well. He called out Stephanopoulos for losing credibility. He pointed out that fewer people watch ABC because of this behavior. He refused to be bullied by a biased host.
The abrupt ending of the interview made Stephanopoulos look weak. He couldn’t handle Vance’s pushback. He couldn’t defend his focus on unsubstantiated allegations. So he just ended the interview like a child taking his ball and going home.
Trump’s sarcasm about the friendly interview was spot-on. ABC treated Vance with hostility from start to finish. They had no interest in real discussion or news. They only wanted to attack the administration.
