Trump Targets Terror Supporters in Immigration Crackdown

The Trump administration is stepping up its fight against antisemitism and terrorist sympathizers — and it’s starting with a deep dive into the social media history of foreign nationals.
On Wednesday, the Department of Homeland Security announced that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will begin screening migrants’ social media activity for antisemitic content. If someone has supported antisemitic violence, terrorist groups like Hamas, or taken part in harassment of Jews, it could now be grounds for denying immigration benefits.
“Aliens’ antisemitic activity on social media and the physical harassment of Jewish individuals” will now be considered as part of the agency’s discretionary decision-making when evaluating green card applications, student visas, and other immigration benefit requests, DHS said in a statement.
The move follows a series of executive orders signed by President Trump focused on combating antisemitism and blocking terrorist threats from entering the country.
DHS cited groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and the Houthis as examples of antisemitic terrorist organizations whose supporters will be flagged under the new rules.
“There is no room in the United States for the rest of the world’s terrorist sympathizers,” said Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary for public affairs at DHS. “We are under no obligation to admit them or let them stay here.”
Secretary Kristi Noem echoed that message: “Anyone who thinks they can come to America and hide behind the First Amendment to advocate for antisemitic violence and terrorism — think again. You are not welcome here.”
The guidance comes amid growing outrage over antisemitic incidents, particularly on college campuses, following the October 2023 Hamas attacks on Israel. Federal authorities recently questioned Columbia University’s former president over her response to rising antisemitic rhetoric on campus.
Wednesday’s DHS release specifically mentions that foreign nationals linked to educational institutions involved in antisemitic activity could also be impacted.
Under the policy, USCIS officers will now treat pro-terrorist or antisemitic social media posts as a negative factor in immigration decisions, particularly if the content promotes or endorses terrorist violence.
The crackdown is just the latest part of a broader Trump administration strategy to restore national security, shut down extremist sympathizers, and protect America’s Jewish communities from imported hate.
